Martin noticed Benedita had on two different shoes when we brought her the meal from Nuevo Corazon last Tuesday. The two mismatched shoes were all she had and they were worn out. When he got in the car after delivering her meal, he told me about her situation. Later that evening Tonyia and I went by her house, and using our limited Spanish asked her if she wanted to go to the store in downtown Galeana and pick out some new shoes. She did not hesitate to say yes. She was very excited.

We had been in the store once before and the sales people were very good. It turns out one of them, Peter, spoke some English because he had lived in Tennessee. Benedita found a pair of shoes she liked a lot. In fact the pair she first tried on were too big, but she did not want to take them off. We finally got her to try the same style in a smaller size. She was grinning from ear to ear.

The sales people seemed curious why we would bring in a poor old lady and buy her new shoes. It lead to a conversation with Tonyia about our work as missionaries. We do all this because of the love of Jesus. Peter showed Tonyia a photo of his little girl and she invited him to a local church.

The only shoes she had was this mis-matched and worn out pair.
