Abundance of Joy Club Fiesta Night

It was no ordinary Marcos 10:14 Kid’s Club meeting Thursday, January 3rd at True Path Ministry’s Casa Alfarero.  Over a hundred children showed up; Jesus’ birthday was acknowledged; birthdays for children during the first quarter of 2019 were honored; Lori, a special guest from Texas, celebrated her 15th birthday; Christmas boxes were given to the kids; cake was served; and a series of special activities were enjoyed. It was a busy night! The photos tell the story:

Tiny Palms-Big Heart

Guest written by: Jeanette and Lori Lewis

Today we ventured out to the tiny village of Palmito, with a population of 93.  While it was still a rough ride, it is much closer to our home base of Galeana, and only required about a one hour ride to get there.  The church there is small, old, and in need of repair, but it is stout and has stood the test of time.  The local Pastor, Ruben, is 85 years old and still going strong.  Lori and I have a special place in our hearts for him as he is extremely patient and loving, and he helps us increase our Spanish vocabulary.  He is one of those people that radiate peace and understanding…one that we are fortunate to know.

Pastor Ruben walked around the area to announce the arrival of the True Path Ministry and the Iglesia Getsemani team.  Soon families from all around the area began to arrive on foot.  The little church was packed!  Evangelist Ramiro preached the sermon today, and we had another separate service for the children led by our newest team member, Rosita.  She taught them songs and we did a candy cane craft… and of course the local dogs had to come help the kids!  If you read the poem below, you will see that the candy cane relates to Christ as a Savior and a Shepherd…

Look at the Candy Cane, What do you see?

Stripes that are red, represent the blood that was shed for me

White is for my savior, who is without sin and pure

“J” is for Jesus, my Savior who is safe

Turn it around and you will see a Shepherd’s Crook

Jesus my Pastor, come back for me.

After the church service, we gave the children the donated gift boxes, and as you can see from the photos, they were very pleased with the gifts.  The women that attended received donated blankets and sleeping bags.  Whole families benefited from our short time there today.

This is at least our 4th time to come here and help Stephen and Tonyia with their ministry.  I cannot even express how much work goes into getting everything prepared, loaded, transported, etc.  However, the blessings are tenfold.  These people rejoice over the simplest of gifts and remind us all what is truly important.  If you have ever thought of coming to assist here, I can wholeheartedly tell you that you will not regret it.  My heart is full of love for the people here, and they are truly Mi Familia en Cristo…My Family in Christ.

Beginning the Year with Blessings in Refugio

Guest written by: Jeanette and Lori Lewis

Today we traveled to the remote mountain village of Refugio, with a population of 73.  Lori and I have been here twice before and we could not ask for a better welcome.  The people here are warm and genuine, and were truly happy to spend the first day of 2019 worshipping with us.

Upon arrival, the local Pastor, Seldonia, and his wife ushered us into their wooden home to a wonderful lunch of chicken, beans, and rice.  Church services were then held under the cedar thatch roof, with a car battery powering the speakers and microphones.  Evangelist Ramiro preached a moving sermon about how all things in life are a gift from God.

The children enjoyed a separate church service about the birth of Christ, complete with a worksheet and crafts.  Afterwards, the children nearly exploded with excitement to receive their donated boxes filled with Christmas gifts.  We gave out close to 50 gift boxes!

The women of the group went through donated clothing to provide their family what they needed for the coming winter months.  Afterwards, Pastor Rey and his wife, LuLu, handed out donated blankets to each family.  The blankets were a huge hit.  It gets extremely cold at night in the mountains surrounding Refugio and all the families were so grateful to receive them.

I know that the families of Refugio received the blessings of worship, friendship, and warmth…but the number of blessings that they bestowed upon us with the smiles of the children and the repeated, “Thank You” from the adults filled our hearts as well. There were blessings all around for the New Year…and I hope you have a blessed New Year too.

Entire families spent the first day of the New Year 2019 with us (click on a photo to see it larger)
